What the Enablement Awards are
The Enablement Awards were created to celebrate and reward excellence, innovation and exemplary achievement in the disability care sector across Australasia. They recognise how quickly the sector has grown in the region, and the capacity of individuals and organisations to influence it and set new performance standards.
The categories span the full breadth of disability care and housing — from supported living, respite and community care through to specialist disability accommodation, plan management, day care, education and training, and carer of the year. Awards are only made in the categories that merit the accolade in a given year, so a category can pass without a winner.
How winners are selected
The Awards Secretariat applies a deliberately high bar to the final candidate in each category, asking whether that claimant is genuinely the best performed, most meritorious, most innovative and most courageous entrant in the field. The judging emphasis sits on a handful of themes.

That last point is the one that matters most to us. Disability support is not delivered in a strategy document — it is delivered on a Tuesday morning, by a support worker who turns up on time, knows your routine, and treats you with respect.
What a national award means if you are choosing a provider
Plenty of providers make claims about quality. Very few of those claims are independently assessed, which is exactly what makes an external award worth something: someone outside the organisation looked at the work and formed a view.
Be clear about what it does and does not tell you, though. An award is evidence that an organisation’s approach stands up to outside scrutiny. It is not a substitute for the questions you should ask any provider — whether their workers are screened and qualified, whether you get consistent staff rather than a rotating roster, how quickly they respond when something goes wrong, and whether they will actually co-design your supports with you rather than slot you into a template.

The people behind the award
This award belongs to the support workers, coordinators and nurses who do the work. Our team includes Certificate III and IV holders in Individual Support, Enrolled Nurses and Bachelor of Nursing students from Adelaide universities, every one of them holding current NDIS Worker Screening, Working with Children Checks and National Police Clearances.
It is also a genuinely multicultural team. Alongside English, our staff speak Arabic, Dari, Persian and Urdu, which means participants and families from Adelaide’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities can talk about their support in the language they are most comfortable in.
