Finding the right SIL accommodation in Adelaide is a major step towards independence. As a leading NDIS SIL Provider, Humanity Care offers more than just SIL housing—we provide a supportive, 24/7 environment where you can thrive.
This page explains our Supported Independent Living services, shows our current vacancies in Adelaide, and guides you through the NDIS process.
NDIS Supported Independent Living (or NDIS SIL) is a type of NDIS support designed to help people with higher support needs live as independently as possible.
It’s crucial to understand: SIL is about the person-to-person support you receive within the home, not just the SIL Housing (the “bricks and mortar”). The NDIS SIL funding pays for support workers who assist with daily tasks, helping you build your skills and live with autonomy. The core purpose is to empower you to live the life you choose.
NDIS SIL is specifically for NDIS participants who require a significant level of support throughout the day, every day of the week. This checklist helps determine if Supported Independent Living is the right fit.
This means you need substantial help 7 days a week, including overnight support
SIL is designed to build your skills, whether you live on your own or in a shared SIL house
A well-structured SIL Accommodation program offers profound benefits that create a foundation for a more fulfilling life:
This is a key point of confusion. Your NDIS SIL funding is strictly for the support services (the staff). It does not cover ordinary living costs that everyone pays for, like rent and groceries.
| NDIS SIL Funding Covers (The Support Service) | You Are Responsible For (Ordinary Living Costs) |
|---|---|
| Assistance with personal care (showering, dressing) | Rent or board payments |
| Support to build skills in cooking & meal prep | Cost of groceries and food |
| Help with household tasks like cleaning & laundry | Utility bills (electricity, gas, water) |
| Medication management and reminders | Telephone and internet expenses |
| Support to implement behaviour support plans | Household furniture for your personal room |
| Supervision for personal safety and security | Discretionary spending (entertainment, etc.) |
The process for getting NDIS SIL is involved, but we can help you and your Support Coordinator.
The NDIS has several home and living supports. This table clarifies the key differences.
| Feature | Supported Independent Living (SIL) | Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) | Individualised Living Options (ILO) |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it Funds | The SUPPORT SERVICES (people) you need to live independently. | The PHYSICAL BUILDING (bricks and mortar) that is specially designed. | A flexible package of FORMAL & INFORMAL SUPPORTS to live how you choose. |
| Primary Purpose | To provide daily assistance with personal care, household tasks, and skill-building. | To provide an accessible physical environment for people with extreme functional impairment. | To provide a tailored, alternative living arrangement (e.g., in a host's home). |
| Best Suited For | Participants with high support needs requiring 24/7 assistance. | A small percentage of participants who meet specific, stringent eligibility criteria. | Participants who want a more flexible, non-traditional support package. |

Choosing a SIL provider is a major decision. We are committed to being a partner you can trust.
With over 5 years of experience, we have a deep understanding of SIL housing and the NDIS process. We guide you every step of the way.
Person-Centred Support We believe in personalised care. Our qualified staff provide 24/7 NDIS SIL support tailored to your unique needs, focusing on daily tasks, personal care, and skill-building.
Our SIL houses are fully furnished, comfortable, and NDIS-compliant, ensuring you can move in smoothly and live in a safe, welcoming environment.
We assist with everything from understanding your funding to matching you with housemates, ensuring a smooth and transparent transition.
We recommend all participants and families read the official NDIS factsheet on this support.
A “Roster of Care” (ROC) is the detailed 7-day schedule that SIL providers use to create a quote for the NDIS. It outlines all the shared and individual supports needed in a SIL house.
It’s a legal document between you and your SIL provider (Humanity Care). It outlines the NDIS SIL supports we will provide, the cost, and our responsibilities to each other.
No. While SIL is most common in shared homes (to share support costs), you can receive NDIS SIL funding to live on your own if you can demonstrate it’s “reasonable and necessary.”
We have a careful “participant matching” process. We match housemates based on age, interests, and support needs to ensure your new SIL accommodation is a happy and harmonious environment.
Absolutely. It is your home. We encourage you to have visitors. We just ask that you and your visitors are respectful of the other residents and any household safety rules.
We encourage you to bring all your personal belongings to make your bedroom your own space. This includes your bed (if you prefer), clothes, TV, computer, and decorations. The main living areas are typically furnished by us.
Our 24/7 on-site staff are trained to support you. They can assist you with managing your symptoms, getting to a doctor, picking up prescriptions, and ensuring you are comfortable while you recover.
SIL funding isn’t in “levels.” It’s a detailed, individualised budget based on your specific “Roster of Care.” The NDIS will fund a specific dollar amount based on the quote provided, which covers all the support hours you need.
Yes. You have 100% choice and control over who provides your SIL supports. If you are in an SDA property, you can choose any SIL provider to deliver services.
Look for a local Adelaide provider with a strong reputation. Ask about their matching process, staff training, and communication. A good SIL provider will be transparent and make you feel heard.

Taking the step towards independent living is exciting. Our expert SIL provider team is here to help. Contact us for a confidential chat about your goals and our current SIL housing vacancies in Adelaide.

We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of circumstance and ability.
To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.
This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML, adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.
If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements, alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website. In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels; descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups), and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology. To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).
Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
